GST Calculation Formula
GST Exclusive (Add GST)
- GST Amount = (Taxable Value × GST Rate) ÷ 100
- Final Amount = Taxable Value + GST Amount
Example: ₹1,000 @ 18% → GST ₹180 → Total ₹1,180
GST Inclusive (Remove GST)
- Taxable Value = Inclusive Price ÷ (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100)
- GST Amount = Inclusive Price − Taxable Value
Example: ₹1,180 @ 18% → Taxable ₹1,000 → GST ₹180

Understanding CGST, SGST, and IGST
GST in India is split across four components depending on whether a transaction is within a state, across states, or within a Union Territory.
CGST
Central GST
Levied by the central government on intra-state supplies of goods and services.
SGST
State GST
Imposed by state governments on intra-state transactions; revenue stays with the state.
UTGST
Union Territory GST
Applies within Union Territories and functions similarly to SGST.
IGST
Integrated GST
Levied on inter-state transactions; collected by the centre and shared with states.
| Tax Type | Applies On | Collected By |
|---|---|---|
| CGST | Intra-state | Central Government |
| SGST | Intra-state | State Government |
| UTGST | Within UT | UT Government |
| IGST | Inter-state | Central Government |
